Three ports can serve you, and the right one depends on where in the country you are.
Zambia is landlocked but unusually well served, because three different coastlines can reach it. Dar es Salaam on the Central Corridor, Walvis Bay across Namibia, and Beira through Mozambique. Which one is best depends on whether you are in Lusaka, on the Copperbelt or in the south.
The sea leg changes less than the road leg. Ask two hauliers to price the run from each port before you commit, because the difference between corridors on a heavy machine is usually larger than the difference between two similar machines.
Mining and the contractors around it take the big equipment. Thirty tonne and larger excavators, five tonne and larger loaders, graders for haul roads and tippers built for site work rather than highway running.
Road contracts take rollers, graders and tippers. Lusaka building work takes twenty tonne excavators, backhoes and mixers. Farming in the south takes backhoe loaders and mid size wheel loaders.
Whichever port you use, the machine is in transit through that country and clears in Zambia. Tell your agent before the vessel sails so the paperwork is written that way.
We supply parts for what we sell and for machines you already own. On the Copperbelt, where machines run hard, the parts line matters as much as the purchase.
What mining contractors and builders in Zambia ask us.
Dar es Salaam, Walvis Bay or Beira, and the machine. We price the sea leg and you price the corridor.
