Questions we are asked
What buyers in Turkey, Iraq and Jordan ask about routes and cost.
Your route
Do you ship construction equipment to Iraq?+
Yes. Umm Qasr is the direct route and Aqaba in Jordan is the overland alternative, which some buyers prefer for more predictable handling. Tell us your city and we will advise which suits you.
Can you send machines to Turkey?+
Yes, to Mersin, Istanbul or Izmir. Turkey has plenty of local supply, so buyers here import when the price from China beats what the domestic market can offer.
Do you quote to Aqaba in Jordan?+
Yes, and Aqaba serves both Jordanian buyers and cargo continuing overland into Iraq, which makes it a useful option to have on the table.
Which port is best for northern Iraq?+
Mersin in Turkey often works better than Umm Qasr for sites in the north, because the overland run is shorter. For the south, Umm Qasr is usually the sensible choice.
Cost and buying
Is it cheaper to import a machine into Turkey than buy locally?+
It can be, particularly on larger machines where the freight is a small share of the value. Compare our price plus freight against a local quotation and the answer will be obvious either way.
How much does it cost to ship a machine to Umm Qasr?+
It depends on the machine and the sailing when you book. Send us the machine and your port and we will give you the machine and freight as one figure.
What machines are most wanted in Iraq?+
Excavators and rollers, driven by road and infrastructure work, along with tipper trucks for haulage. That is the combination most contractors here are assembling.
Can I buy several machines for a reconstruction contract?+
Yes, and contract sized orders are normal work for us. Buying together improves both the machine price and the freight per unit.
Practical matters
How long does shipping to this region take?+
It depends on the port and the routing, and services into some of these ports are less frequent than into the major Asian hubs. Tell us your destination and we will confirm what is sailing.
Who handles clearance at Umm Qasr or Aqaba?+
A licensed local agent you appoint. Having them engaged before arrival matters a great deal here, because delays at the port end are the main source of unexpected cost.
Do you prepare documents for overland movement?+
We prepare the invoice, packing list and bill of lading for the sea leg. Anything required for the border crossing is arranged by your agent, who will know the current requirements.
Can you quote both the Iraq and Jordan routes?+
Yes, and it is worth asking for both. The cheaper one on paper is not always the faster one in practice, and we will tell you what we think rather than just the numbers.
