Everything lands at Mombasa, and from there it is a road job to wherever you are.
Mombasa is the gateway for the whole Northern Corridor, which is why a machine bought for Nairobi, Kisumu or Eldoret follows the same first leg as one bound for Kampala or Kigali. Get the port part right and the rest is trucking.
Road contracts and county works take rollers, graders, tippers and loaders. Quarries around Nairobi and Machakos take larger excavators and production loaders. Housing and the industrial parks take twenty tonne excavators and backhoe loaders. Farms in the Rift Valley take backhoes and small loaders.
Most Kenyan buyers take the China route. Qingdao has the depth of stock and the lower machine price, and Mombasa is well served from there. Morocco is worth considering when you want the machine sooner, or when you want to stand in front of it before paying.
Use an agent who clears machinery regularly rather than general cargo, because the inspection and the documents are not quite the same. We issue the commercial invoice, the packing list and the bill of lading before the vessel arrives, and your agent does the rest.
Kenya operates a pre export verification scheme on a lot of imported goods. Ask your clearing agent at the start whether your machine needs a certificate, because it has to be arranged before the machine ships, not after it lands.
Almost nobody in this trade publishes a price. Ours are printed on every machine, which means you can compare us against the next exporter before you spend a week on emails.
What contractors in Kenya ask us most.
The machine you want and your clearing agent at Mombasa are all we need to come back with one landed figure.
